This painting: Peacock Farm was inspired by my time living in an area of Massachusetts that was a peacock farm in the 1800s. The old farmhouse still stood at the entrance to the area.

This neighborhood was a relatively obscure area bordering on an old ochre mine and The Landlocked Forest. I found this place to be extremely mysterious. My neighbors swore that there were still peacocks roaming in the area along with the other wildlife in the forest. I never saw one, but the concept stayed with me and I found myself looking for the peacocks as though they might magically appear while I was walking or hiking. In this painting, I tried to convey the illusive sense that these birds had magically contributed to the lore and local mythology of this area that I found so strange and haunting.

For the palette, I avoided using the vibrant colors that one would use to represent peacocks, as to me, more powerful than their plumage, was the lore that they had left behind.
